Was this the 536 last test?

The day was perfect: a westerly strong wind up to 25 knots. To be sure to test the kayak in a rough sea we drived to Capo Peloro, in order to add to the force of the wind, waves and currents. Gianfranco, Giuseppe and me in turn used the 536 prototype with load or not, taking all routes and testing in the same time the possibility of a fast exit during landing in dumping and surging breakers.

La giornata era perfetta: un forte vento da ovest fino a 25 nodi. Per essere sicuri di testare il kayak in mare mosso abbiamo guidato fino a Capo Peloro, al fine di aggiungere alla forza del vento, onde e correnti. Gianfranco, Giuseppe e io abbiamo usato a turno il prototipo 536 con carico o senza, prendendo tutte le rotte e testando la possibilità di una uscita veloce durante uno sbarco con onde dumping e surging (due dei più ostici tipi di frangenti).

The boat is easy to paddle also withouth the skeg. Maybe Giuseppe will change a little bit the bow line and the deck behind the cockpit but we can finally say that we have a good hull for big seas and heavy loads!

La barca è facile da condurre anche senza skeg. Forse Giuseppe cambierà un po' la linea di prua e il ponte dietro il pozzetto ma possiamo finalmente dire che abbiamo un ottimo scafo per mare grosso e carichi pesanti!

Test time

Having post-poned the trip, probably to May 2010, we have more time to complete our test on the "536 proto". During the Vulcanoa Symposium the kayak was fully tested by Giacomo (that is the tallest of the team) and by Raymond, the designer of all other SDK kayaks.
The new hull, with more rocker and an higher volume is fully satisfactory. The skeg will go as a standard, the cockpit will be a K-hole and the seat is totally new and in three different sizes. The last work to do is over the deck, for a final tuning of hatches and accessories.

Avendo posticipato il viaggio, probabilmente per Maggio 2010, avremo più tempo per finire il nostro test al "536 proto". Durante il Simposio Vulcanoa il kayak è stato testato pienamenta da Giacomo (il più alto del team) e da Raymond, il designer di tutti gli altri kayak SKD.
Il nuovo scafo, più insellato e voluminoso, è pienamente soddisfacente. Lo skeg sarà di serie, un pozzetto più lungo (K-hole) e il sedile totalmente nuovo con tre misure diverse. L'ultimo lavoro da fare è sulla coperta, per una sistemazione finale dei tappi e degli accessori.



The first version was a bit too fat. Here the kayak is loaded with me (80 kg) plus 35 kg of water.


During a test session Giacomo says to Giuseppe that he agree the last modifications of the hull.


Raymond is very happy for the final version of the hull and gives the start to the deck, cockpit and seat work.
